There was an article in one of the recent Wired issues that suggested the rise of the tablet will change the way people interact with the world around them to dramatic effects. FastCompany has posted a few articles on movies viewed on tablets are becoming more user-interactive thanks to the tablet's technology. Some actually enable people to move movie characters around the screen with their fingertips and affect how the film’s plot develops (ex: during chase scenes in a horror movie–after years of telling movie characters, “Don’t go through that door!” we will literally be able to, well, make them not go through that door). In the same Wired article, it was mentioned that the gaming industry might actually lead the way for the rest of us in the new era of personal, interactive, mobile computing, in the sense that they continue to perfect user interaction over the years and have a considerable lead over other industries that aren’t as developed in that area. It might be insightful for us to contact WB Games right here in Chicago and see if we could snag a speaker that could talk about the tools they use and knowledge they have garnered over the years about turning end users into more active participants with the products and services they use and how that can be applied to other areas of design.
