What do you call an interaction designer who doesn't design for a computer screen? While it sounds like a a precursor to a joke, it is a deep and uncertain question, or rather one of many questions that interaction designers should be exploring as the future of interaction is about to change dramatically.
Imagine a world without web browsers. A world where information and digital objects occupy the same space as "real" or physical artifacts. Popularly titled
augmented reality, the field of mixed media has been around for quite some time and is coming to maturity sooner than you might expect.
Join Joseph Juhnke, owner and CEO of Tanagram, Inc. as he shares the body of his nearly decade long expedition into immersive experience design and some of the products he's developed in an effort to illustrate the future that is to be. Explore the open-hardware
movement, embedded computing, gesture recognition, and the Personal Area Network Sensor Array (PANSA) as the precursor to an upcoming Tanagram new product release, the Poku Bracer. Discuss the skills that will be required as the field of interaction design transforms over the next few years. What will we call ourselves? Digital industrial designers? Interior designers? Extinct?
There will be plenty of time for discussion and to play with some of the systems Joseph will be presenting. Sign up now as space is limited for this one-time event to be held at Tanagram HQ the evening of Wednesday, September 28th.
Joseph Juhnke
President and CEO
With more than 15 years of digital product design experience, Joseph Juhnke¹s vision for connecting data, location, and people is the driving force behind Tanagram¹s leadership in innovation for integrating
technology and design.
Our work is a mix of grant-funded ³advanced² research and commercial projects. Our fast cycling between both worlds keeps us both on the forefront of innovation and well-grounded in practical business realities.
We focus on three specific areas: 1) Complex workflow applications, 2) Innovative web sites that change the way the Internet is used, and 3) Mobile applications that bring data to users in contextually relevant ways
(like our Augmented Reality Platform).
Joseph is fascinated and constantly exploring the human condition and how technology can support and encourage growth in everyone. Building upon his
roots in art, communication, technology, music, and mechanics, Joseph believes that technology can only be great when it is supported by insightful design that discourages intrusiveness and emphasizes relevance.
The best technology is invisible.
Joseph is also is a licensed private pilot in the United States of America and an avid snowboarder.
